Happy birthday to Mrs. Reynolds in the English department!

 

KUDOS:  We are so excited to announce that the Anderson Chamber Choir received Superior Ratings from the judges at Saturday's Madrigal & Chamber Festival.  The choirs competed against some of the top choirs in the state.  Additionally, Anderson received a Performance of Distinction Award showing that they were one of the top choirs to perform that day!

 

Attention Students: If you are an active member of student council, you are eligible to run for Student Council or Class Officer positions.  Please pick up an application in room 317 or in the front office.  The applications are due 4/2 to room 317.

 

Students and staff, would you like an easy way to help support Anderson Science Olympiad?  Come join us for dinner this Friday, March 13th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Modern Market Eatery in the Great Hills Market. 50% of all money spent will be donated back to our organization to help fund our upcoming tournaments and events. We hope to see you there!

 

THEATER DEPARTMENT HOSTS A NIGHT OF ONE ACTS:  Wednesday, March 11, 6pm, AHS Theater

It’s a Night of One Acts at the Anderson Theater on Wednesday, March 11. Beginning at 6pm is a comedy of disastrous proportions when the disgruntled cast of Snappy's Happy Half Hour quits moments before a live broadcast, and it's up to the techies to save the beloved children's television show. The second play, Shape of the Grave, has already advanced to the next level of UIL competition and won awards for the actors in this revenge story of a small girl with big aspirations to end British occupation in downtrodden Northern Ireland.

 

Anderson Guitar is having a beginner guitar concert this Thursday at 7pm in the band hall. Come see all the first year beginner guitar students showcase what they have learned. Music spanning the decades from the 50's to today. Admission is free, so see you there.

 

We will be having Saturday School Now this week on TODAY AND TOMORROW in room 248 from 4:30-6:30. You must sign in to reserve a seat with Mrs. Salas in the Registrars’ office.  There will not be any Saturday School these next two weekends due to Spring Break.

 

SENIORS if you have NC's you will not be allowed to purchase your Prom tickets or go to Prom if you have not completed your NC's by Thursday, March 12th. You need to see Mrs. Salas to get this cleared. We still have 43 Seniors with NC's for past semesters.

Happy birthday to Mrs. McNamara in the English Department and Mrs. Salas in the Registrars’ office!

 

KUDOS:  The 2158 ausTinCans robotics team went to a First Robotics Tournament in Del Rio and won 1st Place! We also won the Industrial Design Award for efficient design. We have won other awards prior, but this is the 1st tournament win. Big Congrats. GO CANS!

KUDOS:  Last week our Anderson High School Book Club competed in the 2nd Annual Austin ISD Book Battle at McCallum HS against 11 other high schools and we brought home the trophy! Please congratulate our winners: Avery Herbold, Lexie McGhee, Charlotte Webster, Victoria Murphey, Emily Mazar, and Peyton Roberts. 

They read 10 different books over the year and had to answer challenging questions in three quiz bowl like rounds: Kahoot, Short Answer, and Jeopardy!

The senior panoramic picture is Tuesday, 3/10 at 8:30 in the student parking lot. Arrive early to get lined up and wear school colors or team/club uniforms.   Orders will be taken immediately afterward and photos will be sold and delivered during lunch the following day in the cafeteria.

Anderson HS congratulates the following seniors for being chosen as Anderson's Who's Who for the 2019- 2020 school year:  Aidan Trulove, Alyssa Childress, Cai Wilson, Carsten Groos, Daehan Jung, Hallie Varner Tyler, John Duncan, Joshua Hall, Katiana Soenen, Makena Fidler, Nadav Rosenberg, Riley Church, Savanna Tucker, Sydney Childress, and Victoria Murphey.

 

The National Honor Society has elected its officers for 2020-2021.  Please congratulate:

President: Nora Brock and Vice President: Nickhil Anantha

2020-2021 Officers are Natalie Benavides, Sofia Campos, Regan Cohen, Cashel Fitzgerald, Dong Jung, Han Lam, Kylie Miller, Ellee Stein, Lila Tamburrano and Nicholas Tesmer.

We will be celebrating and performing the music of the year 1980!  40 years ago these songs were the hits of the day from bands like U2, Billy Idol, Queen, Journey, Pat Benatar, Pink Floyd, and many more. Students and staff are all invited to go back in time and hear the music of 1980. 

 

We will have Saturday school this Saturday from 8-12.   If you want to find out if you need hours, please see Mrs. Salas in the registrars’ office.

KUDOS:  Swimming:  According to the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association that released the All-American time standards for the 2019-2020 season, Anderson High School is proud to announce the swimmers that qualified for either consideration or automatic All-American time. These times have continuously gotten lower each season, signaling that high schools swimmers are only getting faster. Congratulations to the following swimmers on their achievements:

Lance Butler earning two individual All-American Consideration times in the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle!!!
The boys 400 yard freestyle relay consisting of Alex Skowronski, Jasper Davis, Sam Parker, and Lance Butler earned an All-American Consideration time (3:06.34)!!!

The boys 200 yard freestyle relay consisting of Alex Skowronski, Sam Parker, Jasper Davis, and Lance Butler achieved an Automatic All-American time - (1:23.99)!!!

                Congratulations to Anderson's Little Theatre Company! LTC was chosen as one of the advancing plays in the UIL One Act Play Competition. Acting awards were presented to Piper Duffee, Caileigh Dowell, Connor Gockel and Best Performer was awarded to Marie Richie. Please come and see them perform for their next round of competition at the Austin PAC Center on Tuesday the 10th.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TUESDAY, March 3RD

NOTE:  Thursday is a late start day; morning buses will run 1 hour later than usual and classes will begin at 10am!

 

KUDOS:  The Varsity Boys Golf team won their 6th tournament in a row at the Lone Star Classic in Manor on Monday. Trevor Mierl placed 2nd w/ 73, Cade Eldridge 4th place-74 & Ethan Parker 5th place-75. Lucas Chan & Darius Hajibashi were on the winning team as well. Not since the 90's when AHS won State have we won as many tournaments in a season.  We beat Austin High by 4 & Westlake by 14. Outstanding Job, Trojans!!!

                Congratulations to the 21 following Anderson visual art students whose art work qualified for state competition at the Regional Visual Art Scholastic Event last Saturday. Eliza Avramova, Cole Crownover, Larkin Devine, Kyra Ely, Opal Lung, Kacy Miller, Thi Nguyen, Vi Nguyen, Mackenzie Nerenberg, Elyse Reed, Rebecca Vinnerlid, Catherine Angell, John Duncan, Kate Oliver, Allyson Perez, Annie Tran, Idris Young, Brooke Jordan, Kenza Khan, and Yasmin Barnes These students will be representing Anderson at the State VASE competition in April. Additionally, 119 Anderson students works of art achieved jurror scores of 4, which is the highest possible score in this competition.

Congratulations to the girls' varsity lacrosse team who won two district games over the weekend.  The Trojans outscored opponents 40 to 7.  The Trojans are back in action at home this Thursday vs Austin High at 6:30 on Calhoon Field.

KUDOS:  The Senior Class officers would like to thank all the Top Trojan participants and congratulate Billy Balliette for being crowned Top Trojan 2020.

The Lady Trojans Golf team placed 2nd in the 2-day Vandegrift Invitational over the weekend. Darrelyn Webster & Caroline Dasch placed 6th overall for the Trojans & Farah O'Keefe placed 7th. We finished only 5 strokes behind Lake Travis but 17 ahead of Westlake! Outstanding showing!

This past Saturday Anderson German students competed at the Texas State German Competition and every student who qualified for the contest placed in the top 10 in at least one category.  Congratulations!

This weekend Anderson Track competed in the Chap Relays at Westlake.  For girls Varsity:   Avery Herbold won 1st in the Pole Vault and broke the school record by clearing 11'6.  Camryn Bradley tied for 2nd place clearing 9' and Cai Wilson got 1st in 200 m dash

JV:  Ashton Huff got 2nd in Discus, Cherryn Cha got 3rd in the 100 Hurdles and Hannah Patterson got 3rd in the 300 Hurdles.  Our next meet will be this Saturday at the Round Rock Invitational.

Basketball Playoff game vs Brennan HS is tonight at Cibolo Steele High School at 7:30pm – GO TROJANS! 

KUDOS:  Congratulations to the Anderson Water Polo teams on staying undefeated to the start of the 2020 Spring Season this past weekend. The Anderson girls team played Waco Midway coming up with a big win 18-1, and tied with Cedar Ridge in a hard fought second game with a score of 6-6. 

Anderson boys team picked up a convincing victory over Cedar Ridge winning 15-5, and then had a bit of a scare as they staved off a late surge to escape with the win over Cedar Park with a score of 10-8. This week the Anderson girls play LASA while the Anderson boys play Austin High. Go TROJANS!!!

 

Tonight is Senior Night for Anderson Boys’ Soccer!  We will recognize our seniors a 7:15PM prior to the Varsity game at 7:45 PM at Anderson, Calhoun Field. Students, please attend to support & cheer for our 14 seniors and for the Anderson Boys’ Soccer team. Go Trojans!

 

If you are attending the Austin Youth Career Fest on Monday, March 2nd, meet at the front of the school at the flagpoles by 8:50 AM so that the bus can be loaded and ready to go at 9 AM. Today is the last day to turn in permission slips to Mrs. Watson in room 330.

 

All juniors will take the SAT during the school day next Wednesday, March 4th.  Please be sure to bring your ID, calculator and #2 pencils with you.  All other students will be on an alternative schedule.

 

Large group photos are Tuesday, 3/3 in the large gym. A schedule will be posted on Blend Friday afternoon.  The clubs below are the only clubs being photographed. Students should show up five minutes prior to the time will be directed to a location by a yearbook staff member. If you are late or not paying attention, you will likely not be in the photo. Names of students in the club are provided by the sponsors so please do not sit for a club photo that you are not a member of, as consequences such as lunch detention could occur.

Attention Sophomores and Juniors:  Anderson@work deadline is this Friday, February 28th.  Anderson@work is our business internship where students gain real world experience working two class periods off campus during the school day. Applications, teacher references and interview signups are available outside room 135.  For more information contact Ms. Weinstein in room 135.

 

Attention Students:  Who will be the next Top Trojan?  Top Trojan tickets are now on sale!  Purchase tickets in Room 317 or by using the QR codes posted around the school.  Top Trojan, the senior class fundraiser, is Saturday, Feb 29.  

Announcement for all Seniors.  If you have NC's on your transcript you will need to see Mrs. Salas before you try to purchase tickets for Prom.  Seniors with NC's will not be allowed to purchase tickets until your NC's are cleared.

 

AP EXAM Late Registration closes this Friday, Feb. 28th. All late registrations incur a $40 late fee per exam.
2 steps to register:

Ask your   AP teacher for the Join Code.
2) Pay for your exam(s) on Total Registration:  https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/440294

No AP Exam registration will occur after Friday, Feb. 28th.

KUDOS:  The varsity tennis team beat St. Andrews last night with a score of 9-4! Tomas Barrera and Jameson Sorrell won tight matches to put us ahead, our girls dominated and then Josh Rutman, Jaidon Allen, Derek Fuhr and Kevin Masuo closed it out with wins in boys doubles.

 

Large group photos are Tuesday, 3/3 in the large gym. A schedule will be posted on Blend Friday afternoon.  The clubs below are the only clubs being photographed. Students should show up five minutes prior to the time will be directed to a location by a yearbook staff member. If you are late or not paying attention, you will likely not be in the photo. Names of students in the club are provided by the sponsors so please do not sit for a club photo that you are not a member of, as consequences such as lunch detention could occur.

Congratulations to girls’ soccer teams for their win last night over Akins.  JV won 2-0 and Varsity won 4-1.

We would like to congratulate the Anderson Swim Team on a fantastic season. At the 2020 UIL 6A Swimming & Diving State Meet, the girls team placed 40th and the boys team placed 13th overall. Congratulations to the following swimmers on their outstanding accomplishments at the meet:

Sarah Rogillio - 13th place in the 500 yard freestyle

Lance Butler - 5th place in the 50 yard freestyle setting a NEW SCHOOL RECORD with a time of 20.70, 5th place in the 100 yard freestyle setting another NEW SCHOOL RECORD with a time of 45.22 and he has also earned the title - FASTEST MALE SWIMMER at Anderson High School.

Sam Parker - 13th place in the 100 yard backstroke and setting a NEW SCHOOL RECORD twice during the meet.

The boys 200 yard freestyle relay consisting of Alex Skowronski, Sam Parker, Jasper Davis, and Lance Butler got 5th place with another NEW SCHOOL RECORD time of 1:23.99.  Congratulations to ALL the swimmers on a terrific season, way to go! GO ANDERSON SWIM TEAM!

KUDOS:  Congratulations to the girls’ varsity lacrosse team on their home win last night versus Lake Travis.  The Trojans won the game 17-15 in front of a great home crowd.  Shout outs to Annie Small for the game winning goal, Taylor Sykes who led the team with 7 goals, Rocky Kurth who led the team with 7 draw controls and Sally Whitehead who had 3 caused turnovers.  Congratulations ladies. 

The varsity tennis team played very well in a tough Westwood tournament last week. Jamie Antonacci won 3rd place! Congratulations!

 

There will be a send-off for the boys’ basketball team at 1pm today before we board the bus.  The buses will be parked by the tennis courts so come on out, gather there and cheer on the team as they board the bus for their playoff game.  Boys’ Basketball playoff game is tonight!   Our Runnin’ Trojans play Smithson Valley on Tuesday, Feb. 25th at 7:30pm at Canyon Lake High School.    Come on out and support your team in the first round of playoffs!

Nick Shields - Academic Pentathlon, Althea Lloren - Mythology, Jack Dale - Ancient Geography, Nick Shields - Latin Reading Comprehension Poetry, Ben Jeffrey - Roman Life, Jack Maxwell - Latin Oratory, and Katiana Soenen  - Latin Sight Recitation.
