From Ms. Andrade:  Students, if you miss a final exam, you can make it up over the summer in the Registrar's Office.  We will offer several days over the summer for you to come in and make up your exam.  This year we are using a Google Form to sign up. Congratulations to IB Diploma student Nickhil Anantha for winning the Ronald D. Beauford IB Diploma Memorial Scholarship!  Principal Ronald Beauford was responsible for bringing the International Baccalaureate Program to Anderson High School in 1994.  The Beauford family is still invested in the wonderful learning and amazing students who choose the IB Diploma curriculum here at AHS, and award this scholarship annually in Principle Beauford's memory.  Congratulations to Nickhil on this well-deserved honor!  

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR BASEBALL COACH, KENNY MATTHEWS, FOR BEING NAMED THE 17-5A ALL-DISTRICT COACH OF THE YEAR!   

 

KUDOS: Riley Raab earns another award for her Reflections visual arts entry “I Matter Because They Matter.” The Texas PTA Reflections award ceremony was held May 15th. Congratulations Riley for representing both Anderson PTSA & Austin Council PTA Reflections programs for this year’s theme: “I Matter Because”!

Happy birthday to Happy birthday to Mr. Frazier and Ms. Donahue!

 

The AHS Boys Golf team claimed 5th place in the Boys State Golf Tournament in Georgetown Tuesday. The Trojans were led by Trevor Mierl who placed 2nd overall (out of 84 golfers) to win the Silver Medal with  scores of 73-69. Ethan Parker  shot 78-73, Cade Eldridge carded 78-78, & Trent Mierl posted 73-79. Outstanding season.....Winning District, placing 2nd at Regionals then coming 5th in the State!!! This matches the girls season. Next year we expect to repeat the journey with a better result-5A State Champs! 

Very proud of all our Trojans this season.  There were several nice articles in the past 2 weeks for both our boys & girls teams in the Statesman & TV coverage as well so be sure to look them up!

Dance Guard wants you!Dance guard is completely open to all genders, backgrounds, and experiences. It's a course for 9th through 12th and we would just love to see more members at our beginner clinics, even if it's just to check it out.  Our clinics are May 18th and May 19th from 5 PM-7:30 PM. They would meet at the Anderson band hall prior to 5PM with a mask and AISD Green Screen ready to get their temperature checked.   • Download the College Board AP App NOW!!!!
  • At-Home Exams:
    • Don't forget that Digital Exams start automatically at the same time worldwide, at 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. Central. The exam timing is controlled by the digital testing app, not by you, the AP coordinator, or a proctor.
    • Check-In: The check in process begins 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of the exam. Students must begin check-in before the exam start time or they won’t be able to test. 
    • If you experience technical difficulties during the exam, you may request a make-up exam.
      To submit a makeup exam request, a student: 
      1. Signs into My AP 
      2. Clicks Place Request under Request Makeup for the appropriate course 
      3. Clicks Request a Makeup from the pop-up window
  • End of Semester Final Conflicts with AP Exams:
    • There are a few AP and final exam conflicts.  Anderson's staff is aware of the conflicts and will work with the students to ensure they have access to their final exams.  Students, please reach out to your teachers to schedule a time that works best for both of you.

Latin Club is also hosting its final Latin Club meeting of the year Tuesday at 5:15 on the Latin Club Zoom link!

 

Anderson High School’s Trustee Awards and Recognition Scholar ceremony is Monday, May 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm. This will be a drive through event located in the front circle drive of the school near the flagpoles. Participation is by invitation only. Invitations were emailed on May 3rd.

The AHS Theater Department is excited to make available the livestream of our spring play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. The highly enjoyable tragicomedy by Tom Stoppard is a surrealist and existential look at Hamlet from the perspective of two inconsequential characters. And while we cannot seat the audience in the AHS Theater, a link to the livestream of the play is being made available free of charge at www.andersontheater.org. Congratulations to seniors Kari BrownMatthew Kennedy and Matthew McHorse. The three Anderson students were awarded 2021 PTSA Scholarships. Additionally, Matthew Kennedy earned the 2021 Frazier Family Scholarship, which is awarded to a student pursuing a degree/career in a medical field.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, May 15th from 2 - 4PM at the Kendra Scott store in the Domain. Kendra Scott will donate 20% of all purchases made in the store during that time if you identify yourself as supporting AHS's Project Graduation. Come spend the afternoon at the Domain as graduation is just around the corner and you will be in the perfect spot to select beautiful grad gifts! The Project Graduation Committee is thrilled to announce that in conjunction with the Student Council, our Project Graduation Committee will host a free, in-person hybrid Prom-Project Graduation event on Thursday, June 3, from 8-midnight for all graduating Anderson HS Seniors. The event is being held in a large indoor/outdoor space in east Austin and will include dancing (DJ), light refreshments, yard games, selfie stations, prize raffles and the famous PG hypnotist. REGISTRATION FOR ALL GRADUATING SENIORS CLOSES MAY 30TH! Detailed event information and registration forms can be found on the Project Graduation Page at andersononline.org.

The AHS Theater Department is excited to make available the livestream of our spring play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. The highly enjoyable tragicomedy by Tom Stoppard is a surrealist and existential look at Hamlet from the perspective of two inconsequential characters. And while we cannot seat the audience in the AHS Theater, a link to the livestream of the play is being made available free of charge at www.andersontheater.org. Pfizer Vaccination Clinic is coming

Pfizer Vaccination Clinic is coming on May 20th!

Thursday, May 20, 2021 – 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm

We have a vaccine opportunity available this week for our AISD Community, all family members included, 16 years of age and older. This opportunity is being hosted by VAX Together Austin in partnership with Walgreens Pharmacy. Appointment is preferred, walk-ins are welcome.

  • Time: 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Location: Anderson High School Performing Arts Center  
  • Clinic Type: Walk-in (park in faculty parking lot off Cima Serena)
  • Vaccine available: Pfizer (first dose)

  • We will conduct a touchless-thermometer temperature check prior to vaccine administration.

Happy birthday to Justin LaVergne in the Theater department!

 

Congratulations to the Anderson Lady Trojans Golf team who placed 5th in the State Tournament out of 12 teams.  Leading the Trojans was Caroline Dasch 77-71-tied for 10th place, Darrelyn Webster-74-75 in 12th place, & Farah O'Keefe-75-76 in 16th place out of 71 golfers! Sloane Panter & Karime Nichols played well for AHS.   Very Proud of these young ladies & as they all return next year, we are counting on bringing a State Championship back to Anderson!  Thanks to all administration, faculty, & staff for their support throughout the year.

Graduation 2021

Graduation 2021

 

  • Anderson High School will hold our 2nd Annual Graduation Parade in celebration of our graduating seniors on May 22nd at 10:00 starting at the Anderson HS student parking lot.   Seniors should arrive at 9am, wearing their cap and gown and follow instructions of staff in the parking lot. Please make plans to have someone drive the graduating senior so they may enjoy the festivities safely. 
  • Seniors return their Chromebooks on May 28th from 1pm – 5pm in the staff parking lot off of Cima Serena.  Bring your Chromebook, charger and bag and label everything with your name and student ID number!
  • Anderson High School graduates on Wednesday, June 2nd at 7:00pm at Nelson Field.  The 2021 Austin ISD Graduation Ceremonies will be broadcast live on Channel 22 on Spectrum (Time Warner Cable), Grande, Google Fiber TV, and AT&T U-verse (Ch. 99). Watch our free live stream on Apple TV, Roku, facebook.com/austinisd/live/ and at AISD.TV.
  • Students may NOT decorate their caps and/or gowns. This is a formal ceremony and dress code should be adhered to. Please keep in mind that students will be walking on the track and the turf field and heels may be difficult. No flip flops will be permitted. 
  • AISD clear bag policy will be in effect and no artificial noise makers are permitted in the stadium. COVID Protocols will be in place. 
  • There will be transportation available from the Anderson HS parking lot to the event at Nelson Field. 
  • Student Instructions: Plan to arrive 30-45 minutes prior to the ceremony and ensure you account for traffic and the crowd. When you arrive at the stadium, masked guests will take their seats and social distance. Students will go to the baseball stadium accessible through the south endzone to line up alphabetically, collect medals/cords..., and get ready. Tables will be setup to distribute these items. Students will receive two name cards. The first will be handed to the announcer as they approach the podium to walk the stage and receive their diploma cover. The second will be a photo card they will complete and hand to the photographer after they have exited the stage. Students will enter the stage from stage right and exit stage left. The procession route will be practiced at the mandatory graduation practice on June 1st at 2:00 located at Anderson HS on Calhoon Field.

Before school: 7am - 8am                             During Lunch: 12:35pm - 1:30pm                               After School: 4:45pm - 6pm
If you cannot make one of these time slots, please reach out to Coach Navarro (heidi.navarro@austinisd.org) for the girls and Coach Thompson (roderick.thompson@austinisd.org) for the boys.  If you will be coming up on Wednesday, May 12 for physicals, you can bring your track equipment with you and turn it in at that time as well.  If you are coming up for XC/Track 0-Hour workouts, you can turn your equipment in during that time.  If you are on campus for another sport/athletic period, let us know and we can arrange to pick it up during that time as well.

 

AHS Theater Department Presents Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, on Stage via Livestream

The AHS Theater Department is excited to make available the livestream of our spring play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. The highly enjoyable tragicomedy by Tom Stoppard is a surrealist and existential look at Hamlet from the perspective of two inconsequential characters. And while we cannot seat the audience in the AHS Theater, a link to the livestream of the play is being made available free of charge at www.andersontheater.org. The after-school tutorial center will be offering virtual tutoring every Tuesday & Thursday for the remainder of the Spring semester.  This opportunity is designed for students who need a little extra help, an accountable study space, or a place to get work done with their fellow students (group projects, anyone?).  

Sessions will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:00p-6:30p
