Dance Department Classes & Descriptions

The Anderson dance department is open to all students, regardless of previous training. Novice dancers and skilled dancers alike will find a place in the dance department. Please read below for a detailed description of the fabulous dance classes we offer at Anderson!
We offer four years of dance training: Level I - IV with our upper level Dance III & IV courses available for honors credit. Students can earn P.E. OR fine arts credit for successful completion of the first two levels of dance and can earn elective or fine arts credit in levels III and IV. Dance classes cover jazz, ballet, tap, modern, and hip hop styles along with a variety of general health, fitness and wellness concepts. All students perform in our Fall Dance Concert.
Athletes Dance is a class designed just for male athletes looking to improve their flexibility, coordination, agility, and strength! This class provides optional performance opportunities at an AHS peprally, Fall Dance Concert, as well as Trojan Belles Spring Show. Athletes Dance I will provide a fine arts credit (or PE credit upon request for athletes that compete outside of school). Athletes Dance III & IV are available for honors credit after completion of Athletes Dance I & II.

Broadway dance is a great opportunity for those that are interested in musical theater or Broadway that are looking to receive their PE credit. In class, we cover all styles of dance technique, learn about Broadway, and perform popular musical numbers!

Our exciting Pre Drill program is the next step for dancers seeking a more intense focus on dance performance and dance technique. Pre Drill is open to all students 9-12 and is the required course for students planning to try out for the Trojan Belles Dance Team. Tryout candidates and one parent/guardian must be present at the tryout meeting on November 6th at 6pm in the cafeteria. Tryouts will be the week of November 26th-November 29th. Mock tryouts will be November 28th at 6pm in the dance gym and formal tryout will be on the Thursday, November 29th at 5pm. Current 9-11 graders who are members of Dance Guard are eligible to audition to join the team officially in the summer following tryouts. The Belles rehearse year-round and perform at varsity football games, pep rallies, and their annual Spring Show. Each February they compete at dance competitions across the state.
