 Congratulations to our varsity football team for a great win over Austin High, beating them with a score of 70-49!   Way to go Trojans!    Thank you to all the students and staff that came out to support the team,  the band, Belles and Cheer squads.    Next game is this Thursday when we take on Lehman @ Nelson Field.   This is our Pink Out game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month.   Pink out shirts and caps will be sold during lunch this week by the cafeteria so get your PINK on!

KUDOS:  Congratulation to Liam D for his 6th place finish at the District Cross Country Meet this week.  Liam qualified for the regional cross country meet in Corpus Christi on October 28th.   A reminder to all cross country runners to turn in all cross country equipment to next week.

                The AHS Golf teams played in a 2 person scramble yesterday with the team of Nathan W & Jameson S winning 1st place w/ 73 in Boys division!

Karime N & Soraya H placed 3rd with Alex S & Kenna D 5th for the girls! Congrats to our Trojan Golf Team!

 

If you are participating in our Reflections program, please make sure you and an adult review the rules and avoid common mistakes that could get your entry disqualified.  20% of our entries will advance to the Austin Council PTA level.  If your entry is selected by the National PTA, you’ll receive $200-800.  For more details, go to the Texas PTA website or ask your Fine Arts teachers.

 

FROM MR. RANGEL:  Are you in Algebra 2 or above? Would you like to be part of a nationally recognized math honor society? Ask your Math teacher about Mu Alpha Theta. Dues are $10 and must be included with your application. All applications must be turned in with your Math teacher’s signature by Friday, Oct. 18th, no later than 4:30. If you have any questions, please talk to Mr. Rangel in room 214 or Mr. Campbell in room 211.

LANCASTER:  This is just a reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday October 16th, is PSAT day.  It is very important that sophomores and juniors show up on time so that we can start the test on time.  All freshmen, and also seniors who are taking the TSI, need to make sure to be at school on time as well.  Seniors who will be participating in off-campus activities, make sure you bring the proper documentation so that you won't be unexcused.

KUDOS:  The AHS Boys golf team won their 3rd tournament of the year this week in Round Rock. Trevor Mierl & Cade Eldridge tied for 1st place individual honors with 69. Will Wright, Darius Hajibashi, Ian Reyna, Lucas Chan, Ethan Parker all shot in the 70's to help our teams claim 1st & 3rd place for AHS. Outstanding job, Trojans!

COLLINS:  Twilight Credit Recovery classes (SummerSchool Now) began yesterday and will run through December 5.  The class will meet in room 248 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 4:35 - 6:15.   Classes are free.  How to sign up, see your counselor.  Attendance Makeup, see Mrs. Salas.  Transportation is limited.  See Mrs. Collins in room 141.

Austin ISD has designated this week as PRIDE Week.  This is a recognition and celebration of our LGBTQ+ students, staff, and families.  Students may come by Mr. Farr's room, 338, to pick up an AISD Pride sticker to wear all this week.  Thanks for helping make Anderson a safe, inclusive community!

KUDOS:  Congratulations to senior co-captains:  Chloe Hightower and Savanna Tucker as they represent the 2019-2020 Lady Trojan Basketball Team.  A well-deserved honor for both of these young ladies.

 The Anderson cross country teams competed in the Georgetown cross country meet and  Liam Donohoe finished in 20th place in the varsity boys’ division with a personal record time of 16 minutes and 54 second in the 5K run.  In the varsity girls’ division, Opal Lung, Lilian Jacobson and Jenna Hamm finished in the top 50 in the 5K run.  Connor Calkins and Brycen Craig led the team in scoring for the junior varsity boys’ division.  Sydney Fulton finished in 19th place and set a personal record with a time of 22 minutes and 51 seconds in the junior varsity girls division.  The cross country teams will face off in the 25-6A Championships on October 15th.

 

Today is the last day to register to vote in the November election.   We will have a voter registration table in the front foyer until 1:30 today so stop and get registered to vote and let your voice be heard!

Anderson High School's Student Council is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, October 17th from 9:30 - 3:30! Come lend a helping arm and save local lives. The link to sign up was sent via Naviance but you can come to Room 317 to sign up.  If you have eligibility questions, check out We Are Blood’s website.   Remember! Eat a full meal before donating and bring your photo ID

Juniors, are you interested in being a successful business leader and entrepreneur?  Then you should apply to be a part of this year’s Camp Enterprise.    Camp Enterprise is a 3 day, overnight event hosted by members of the RCA in which we introduce 80-100 juniors from Austin area high schools to the fascinating world of Private Business and Entrepreneurialism. The goal of our Camp Enterprise is to inspire our students to become the next generation of successful business leaders and entrepreneurs coming out of the community of Austin.   If you are interested in applying to be a part of this year’s Camp Enterprise, please see Ms. Mason in room 133 for an application.  Deadline is October 10th.

KUDOS:  Our AHS Boys golf teams won 1st place as well as 5th place yesterday in the Hays Invitational- out of 25 teams. The Low individual Champ was Trevor M w/ 64! Cade E, Ethan P & Lucas C shot 73. Will W, Darius H & Collin S shot 77. Nathan W had 79. Outstanding start to the Fall season Trojans! 

 

It's National German Week!  Did you know that German-Americans contributed to the development of the United States in numerous and profound ways?  The US education system would be unrecognizable without the ideas championed by German immigrants.  In 2855, German immigrants in Wisconsin launched the first kindergarten in America.  Germans introduced physical education AND vocational education into the public school system and were responsible for the inclusion of gymnasiums in school buildings.

It's National German Week!  Did you know that Anderson has an exchange with Austin's sister city in Koblenz, Germany? And did you know that the international sister cities program dates back to 1956 and the Eisenhower Administration. Recognizing the damage done to diplomacy during World War II, Eisenhower established the program as a civilian vehicle for repairing and promoting international relations. Come join us for German Club tomorrow during lunch in Frau Lesher's room, #311 for a fun round of trivia and dessert to celebrate German-American friendship!

 

The varsity tennis team won a tough match against McNeil last Friday with a score of 10-9.  Anan Ruia won the 10th match!  District play starts on Thursday!

The last day for students to eat using the previous year’s meal status is Tuesday, Oct. 1. If a student has not turned in a new application and had been approved for free or reduced-price meals last year, their status will change to ‘paid,’ which means they must pay for their meals.   So be sure to get your form turned in to the office before October 1st!

 

From Student Council:  It's time to nominate yourself or your friends for the homecoming court.  The nomination boxes are found in front of Room 317, in the library, in the office, and in front of the concession stand.  Stay tuned for voting instructions this week.
