ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20, 2022
(New announcements are in Blue Italics)

  • NHS is holding a Phone Drive!! Donate your old phones to be repurposed for those in need. Hundreds of thousands across America have no way to contact the emergency services we take for granted. This phone drive alleviates that basic necessity.  Old phones that do not work can also be donated and will be recycled. The donation box is in the front office and will run thru the end of April.  For NHS Juniors who need Spring Hours, one phone equals one hour, up to three hours. Bring in your old phones for charity.
  • Interested in LIFEGUARDING or being a CAMP COUNSELOR this summer? City of Austin is hiring! They will have a table set up in the student parking lot courtyard TODAY, WEDNESDAY – stop by for more information!
  • TONIGHT! Anderson Athletic Hall of Fame Fundraiser
    @ 5280 Burger Bar

Eating competition @ 7p featuring 3 teams including players & coaches from Murchison & Anderson… Enter for a chance to win a $50 gift card with your food purchase, just mention Anderson Hall of Honor when you order!! 20% of proceeds will go to the Hall of Honor.

  • AP Volunteer Opportunity – Your help is needed!!
Our students that are registered to take the Advanced Placement (AP) exams this year have been working very hard preparing for the exams.  Your help is needed to make their testing environments positive. We need several volunteers to assist in proctoring the exams this year.
Please complete the Google Form linked below to see the times & days those students will be administered their exams.  If you have a neighbor or a friend that is looking to give back to the Anderson community, this is a great opportunity.
If you have a student that is taking an exam this year you can still volunteer, but not for the subject area that your student is taking.  Please see Ms. Williams for any questions or concerns that you may have. The best way to reach Ms. Williams is a [email protected].

  • Aseel Rawashdeh, Senior, came in 6th place nationally in the Regeneron Science Talent Search. She developed an inexpensive way to kill the larvae of mosquitos that spread viral illnesses.  By incorporating an essential oil (such as cinnamon, garlic or orange) into backer’s yeast microcapsules, she made a cost-effective bait that kills the larvae of mosquitos that spread malaria.  Equally important, in early tests, her larvacide encapsulated oils appear to be harmless to nearby algae and non-targeted insect larvae.  Congratulations Aseel!!

  • Congratulations to the Anderson Robotics team, the ausTIN CANs for their performance at the Austin District Event over at Vandegrift High School! They seeded 7th overall and captained the 6th alliance. During elimination rounds, we discovered tie-breakers are a fun way to lose a match.      KUDOS!!

The team managed to walk away with the Quality Award for robust design of their robot, CANnoli!

  • Girls Soccer
Congratulations to both of our teams on fantastic district seasons!!
Varsity became District Co-Champs with their 8-0 victory over Navarro and a 4-2 victory over Ann Richards before Spring Break. The last district championship title (or co-champ title) seen by Anderson Girls Soccer was in 2017.

During district play, varsity scored 81 goals while only allowing 3 in. Only THREE goals made against and FOURTEEN out of SIXTEEN games with clean sheets.

Our JV had an incredible UNDEFEATED district season. They finished off their season with wins over Navarro (7-0) and Ann Richards (5-0). During the Navarro game, we saw a hat-trick from Georgia Timms, two goals from Elena Schock and one a piece from Violet Greenallnettleton and Jenna Mendelssohn. Assists were from Violet Greenallnettleton (2), Georgia Timms, Elena Schock, Mason Galligan, and Ella Wilkins(2).  In the 5-0 win vs Ann Richards, Elena Schock found the back of the net twice while Georgia Timms, Lilly Hutchison and Ella Wilkins scored once each. Assists here were from Georgia Timms, Elena Schock, Lilly Hutchison, Mason Galligan and Emily Cisneros. Fantastic work everyone!
JV district record consisted of 11 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie...a HUGE accomplishment!

  • Boys Soccer
The Varsity Soccer Team had a tough loss for the District Championship against McCallum last Saturday- losing 2-1. Senior Captain Matthew Scheberle with the single goal of the match. Despite the loss, Coach Deane and the boys had a successful regular season finishing 11-3 (15-5 overall) with a .75 winning pct and look very strong heading into post season play. During the regular season, the team scored a record setting 70 goals- 37 scored by Sophomore Jud Anderson, followed by 10 by Senior Carlos Ramos-Villarruel, and season high assists (led by Jud Anderson, Matthew Scheberle, Sophomore Kyle Bresler and Carlos Ramos-Villarruel). The team was anchored in the regular season by a solid defensive back line led by Senior Captain Nathan Abrahams, Junior Ian Klumpen, Sophomore Angel Martinez, Senior Brycen Craig, Matthew Scheberle and Senior GK Alexis Martinez.

  • Anderson Safety Update
Now that we’ve been back at school for over one semester, your students have probably noticed that we’ve been doing more safety drills 1-2 times per month, and we have five types of safety drills that we practice. For the next few weeks, we will be highlighting the different types of safety drills in this Safety Update.
Evacuation Drill: This is the most common drill that we practice. This drill is used to simulate what would happen if we needed to evacuate the building because of a fire or a bomb threat. When we need to evacuate, the teachers escort their students out of the building quickly and orderly. Students leave their belongings, teachers lock the doors, and students follow the teacher’s instructions for evacuation. If students are on the 2nd or 3rd floor, the teacher will tell them which stairwell to use to avoid congestion.  The evacuation routes are posted in each classroom for the teacher and students to see. When they have cleared the building, the students stay with their teacher until given the all-clear to return inside.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding campus safety, please email Mr. Shackelford at [mailto:[email protected]%0b][email protected]

However, we still have open access to the ELEVEN water bottle refilling stations scattered throughout campusYou may have heard of the “plastic islands” that are scattered throughout our planet’s oceans that are comprised in no small part, of plastic bottles, which is wreaking havoc with our environment.  Please help us be good stewards and pack a refillable water bottle in your backpack each day so we can do our part to take care of our planet!
