Community Letter from Principal Harrison

Anderson High School offers a Remind sign up for student and parent communication from the school in the event of an emergency. When we conduct safety drills we do not initially announce the exercise as a drill as we want students and staff to respond expediently. After 2-3 minutes from the

initial signal, I will text parents (students can join too) and staff via Remind that this is a fire drill, evacuation drill, shelter in place drill, lockdown drill, etc. If it is a real emergency I will use Remind to keep parents and staff informed of the incident and will update as information becomes available. For example, “Building evacuated due to strong smell of natural gas. Austin Fire Department on site.” Then, “AFD cleared site. Students & staff returning to classes.” I find that this factual information delivered in real time calms fears, anxiety and misinformation.

Remind sign up:

Or, text the message @prnt2538 to 757-772-8555

No mobile phone? On desktop computer go to: and sign up for email notifications.

Follow the instructions to sign up for Remind. You will be prompted to download the Remind app if you do not have it already.

If you were in Remind with the Anderson parent account previously, I have cleared those contacts out so that we can load current parents and students. I use the Remind free account so each of my classes is limited to 150. Should you receive a message that the class is full or unavailable try changing the “message” to:

Back to School Night is scheduled for September 9th. More information and specific guidance to follow soon.

I apologize for the length and density of this communication, but I wanted to be sure to cover the most important questions about the beginning of the school year. To keep up with campus happenings, please go to click the staff link, go to Phyllis Woodley and on her page lower right hand side click the Subscribe button. Ms. Woodley will post daily announcements for teachers to share with students and those who subscribe will also receive an email with the announcement information

each day. This is very helpful when trying to keep up with class pictures, buying a yearbook, club meetings, athletic events, school events, etc.
