Anderson High School Fine Arts Department is proud to present CURTAINS - the Musical Comedy Whodunit as their 2017 annual musical. CURTAINS mixes an Agatha Christie-like mystery with the song and dance of a Broadway musical. Set in 1959 Boston, this twisty whodunit tracks the behind-the-scenes misadventures of police detective Lt. Frank Cioffi as he moonlights as a musical fan trying to save the show and solve the case of the opening night murder of a supremely untalented star.

Prices and Times: Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Box Office open 1 hour before each show time.

January 26th-28th @ 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 29th @ 2:00 p.m.

KUDOS: The girls’ basketball teams swept San Marcos. The freshmen team won 36-16, the JV team won 29-21, and the varsity team won 73-26.

            Last Friday the debaters were competing at the UIL District for Cross-Examination Debate. After a day of tough debate rounds the Anderson Trojans left as the District Champions! We took 1st and 3rd place in the tournament, qualifying to the UIL State Championship for CX Debate. 

Our district champions are:  Isaac Swedlow and Sesh Joe

Our 3rd place winners & also state qualifiers are: Bailey Dettmer & James Thomason 

            Congratulations to Callie Puckett who competed at the Travis County Youth Show as part of the rodeo, this last weekend.   She participates in FFA at Lanier and her entry, Hamlet the Pig, came in 5th place!

KUDOS: The girls’ basketball team won 63-52 against Akins last night to put them 2-0 in district. Mia Spennato led the team with 22 points and Caitlin Latson with 14 points. 

Congratulations to the lady Trojans varsity soccer squad on their 2-0 win over the McCallum Knights last night! Shout outs to Brielle Gomez and Jami Anderson with phenomenal goals, and a big shout out to the defense for another shut-out game. The lady Trojans continue their season with a 4-0-0 record!

FROM THE CAFETERIA: Cooler weather calls for a tasty, hot lunch.  During the winter months, the Food Truck will now be featuring Pho (pronounced 'fuh'), a Vietnamese noodle soup made with broth, rice noodles, herbs, spices and choice of protein.  In addition to Pho, the menu also includes tasty banh mi sandwiches and new sides like Vietnamese spicy fries.  As a reminder, a student lunch is only $2.85 and includes an entree, up to 2 vegetables, up to 2 fruits and a milk.

We have a lot of important business to discuss and finance votes to take, so we desperately need everyone to show up and bring a friend so we can make our quorum. We will be discussing and voting on the proposed TEF Grant recipient distributions, textbook distributions from our general carryover fund, legislative updates, official Facebook page unveiling and rollout, setting our tax-free dates for 2017, Project Graduation update, and more.

Student Sharing students who travel to Lanier on A days.  Lanier has a special event at their school tomorrow Wednesday January 11 therefore do not travel to Lanier tomorrow; report to the library instead.

The third annual County Line Cup is tonight!  It is a friendly rivalry between the Anderson Trojans and McCallum Knights JV and Varsity Girls’ Soccer teams.  Anderson is the two time defending champions and we look forward to another competitive game! The fun begins at 5:30 for JV & Varsity’s @ 7:15 at House Park.

KUDOS: We had 15 Anderson Choir students compete in the final round of All-State auditions this weekend. We are happy to announce that 2 of our students were selected to sing in the All-State choirs:  Kat Cruz will sing in the All-State Treble Choir and Brooks Taylor will sing in the All-State Tenor/Bass Choir.  This is an incredible achievement!  Please congratulate these students when you see them!

Thirteen students advanced to the Area level of the TMEA All State Band process to compete in the final leg of the ALL STATE audition process.  Congratulations to Viveca Holman, Haven Erengil, Bridgette Abbott, Mary White, Kenny Brock, Philippe Papa, Steven Oh, Kyla Siebert, Chase Latson, Will Sztejnberg, Jonathan Churchett, David Oh and Owen Chance on advancing to this difficult audition.    Moving on to the TMEA All-State Band with a first chair placement in the AREA E Bassoon room is Jonathan Churchett!  Jonathan is the third 4 year all-state student in Anderson History and the first band student to earn that honor.   Congrats to ALL of these amazing band students -They represented us very well this weekend! 

Congratulations to Anderson Varsity Girls Soccer who swept in their tournament this weekend, winning all THREE of their games in College Station. Job well done ladies!

            The girls’ basketball team won their first district game against Manor 74-62. Mia Spennato and Becca Fulthorpe led the team with 24 points for Mia and 12 points for Becca.

FRIDAY:   This week the Spirit Store will be open on Friday during lunch and Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 PM for the Lady Trojans basketball game. We have new beanies and scarves in royal blue with the Trojan logo that have just arrived, so stop by and check them out! 

SATURDAY:   We will be having Saturday School this Saturday, January 7th from 8-12 with an extended time until 2 if needed for some students.

Twilight will begin Monday, January 9th in room 248  from 4:30 -6:00

DRIVER’S LICENSE VOE FORM:   If you are getting a driver’s license or renewing one, you will need a VOE (Verification of Enrollment) form.   To get the VOE form, you must sign up on the clipboard in the front office, across from the Attendance Desk by noon on Tuesdays.   Mrs. Bradshaw prints the forms every Tuesday afternoon and then places them in a binder at the Attendance desk.   These forms are only printed once a week so be sure to plan accordingly. You may pick up the completed form from Mrs. Q at the attendance desk AFTER SCHOOL on Tuesday.

FROM COACH RHOADS: The "process" for entry into the Trojan Football program happens now.  If you are interested in becoming a Trojan football player next semester and playing next year come by Coach Rhoads office after school this week Monday - Friday 4:30-5pm.  

FROM COACH STRUNK: Senior Football players, please come by the coaches’ office this week to vote for the following awards: Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, Special Teams MVP, Fighting Heart Award. Also, please note that the football banquet will be January 16 in the cafeteria.

CREDIT RECOVERY DATES: Thursday, Dec. 15; Friday, Dec. 16; Monday, Dec. 19 & Tuesday, Dec. 20.

The Guitar Concerts are this week!  Friday night at 6:30 in the theater is the Advanced Guitar show with all the music coming from the 1980s. We got Bon Jovi and Van Halen, The Bangles and Def Leppard. Come out to see and hear the show.

DID YOU KNOW you could get a $500 fine for parking in a disabled parking spot without a permit?  And, ethically, the permit must be for the person entering and exiting the car.  So please, don’t park in a designated disabled parking spot!
